For a delightful touch of whimsy and intricate beauty, consider the Variegated Strawberry Geranium, scientifically known as Saxifraga stolonifera 'Tricolor'. Despite its common name, it's not a geranium and doesn't produce strawberries, but its charm is undeniable! This plant is a true gem, featuring rounded, fuzzy leaves with a captivating mix of green, cream, and pink variegation, often with reddish undersides. Its most endearing quality might be the way it sends out long, slender "runners" or stolons, each with a baby plantlet at the end, mimicking a strawberry plant – perfect for propagation or simply enjoying its spreading habit!

This charming plant typically remains compact, usually growing about 6-12 inches tall and spreading up to 18 inches wide as its stolons reach out. This makes it an excellent choice for a small pot, a terrarium, or as a graceful spiller in a mixed container. Variegated Strawberry Geraniums thrive in medium to bright indirect light. They appreciate the gentle glow of an east or north-facing window, or a spot set back a few feet from a brighter south or west window. Direct, intense sunlight can scorch their delicate, variegated leaves, causing the beautiful colors to fade.

Excellent News for Pet Parents! The Variegated Strawberry Geranium is considered non-toxic to both cats and dogs, making it a safe and worry-free addition to homes with furry companions.

When repotting your Strawberry Geranium, opt for Watters Potting Soil. This premium blend provides the ideal drainage and aeration crucial for its shallow root system, preventing sogginess while retaining enough moisture. To encourage vibrant foliage and healthy growth, feed your plant every 2-4 weeks during its active growing season (spring and summer). We recommend using either Urban Gardener's Super Growth Elixir or Fertilome's All Purpose Houseplant Food, diluted to half strength to avoid over-fertilization.
