"Margaritas & Monarchs" Event to Rescue Tired August Yards in Prescott
The free "Sip & Shop" event will feature botanical margaritas, live pollinator plant reveals, and an "August Rescue" station for struggling high-desert gardens.
PRESCOTT, AZ – July 30, 2026 – Most mountain gardeners believe that once the intense August heat sets in, they simply have to surrender their yards to looking dry and tired until autumn arrives. Watters Garden Center is out to shatter that myth.
On Thursday, August 13th, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM, Watters Garden Center will host its late-summer Sip & Shop event: Margaritas & Monarchs (The Late-Summer Pollinator Party). Designed to bring the local gardening community together, this free event proves late summer is actually the most spectacular time for hummingbird and butterfly activity in Prescott, if you have the right mountain-hardy blooms in the ground.
"Too many locals give up on their patios in August, but you don't have to settle for a scentless, tired-looking yard," says Ken Lain, owner of Watters Garden Center and nationally syndicated host of The Mountain Gardener. "Right now, the heat-loving perennials are putting on a massive show. We want our neighbors to leave the work week behind, grab a cold drink with us, and see exactly how to turn their backyard into a wildlife sanctuary that thrives on late-summer neglect."
Guests will be greeted with complimentary, ice-cold botanical margaritas (and local iced tea) to sip as they stroll beneath the garden center's mountain canopy.
Event Highlights Include:
· The Butterfly Buffet: Exclusive first access to fresh shipments of heat-proof Agastache, Russian Sage, and premium Butterfly Bushes guaranteed to explode with late-summer color.
· The "August Rescue" Station: Attendees are encouraged to bring photos of struggling, heat-stressed plants from their own yards. Ken Lain and the Watters horticultural team will be on the floor providing free, exact watering and feeding protocols to trigger a second flush of flowers before fall.
· Sip & Stroll Networking: A relaxed, colorful evening mingling with fellow high-desert gardeners, complete with complimentary beverages and breathtaking floral displays. Bring a friend.
