Bring a slice of the tropics straight into your living room with the Anthurium, a stunning houseplant famous for its vibrant, waxy, heart-shaped blooms that last for months. You will love how effortlessly it brightens up a space, growing to a manageable 12 to 20 inches tall and wide, making it the perfect focal point for a bright dining table or a well-lit desk. To get those brilliant red, pink, or white flowers to continuously pop, place your Anthurium in bright, indirect sunlight. A spot near an east-facing window is ideal; if the light is too low, the plant will stop blooming, but direct, hot afternoon sun will scorch its beautiful green leaves.
When it comes to watering, think of a damp tropical rainforest rather than a soggy swamp. Allow the top inch of the potting soil to dry out completely before giving it a thorough drink, as overly wet roots will quickly lead to root rot. You can easily test this by simply pressing your finger into the dirt. Because these tropical beauties thrive on humidity, sitting their pot on a pebble tray filled with water will keep their foliage lush and glossy without waterlogging the soil. Please keep in mind that while they are gorgeous, Anthuriums are not pet-safe; they contain calcium oxalate crystals that are toxic if ingested, so you will need to place them high up and safely out of reach of curious cats, dogs, and young children.
