If you are a fan of rich, earthy, sweet-tart fruit, the Marionberry is a must-have for your garden. Widely considered the "queen of blackberries," this variety is famous for its complex flavor, which is perfect for fresh eating, baking, and making jams. While not a thornless variety, its incredible taste makes it well worth the effort. This trailing blackberry is ideal for zones 7 and 8 and requires a sturdy trellis or support system to manage its vigorous growth, which can reach up to 20 feet.
Plant your Marionberry in a full-sun location with well-drained soil. We recommend blending the native soil with our Watters Premium Mulch to help with moisture retention and provide organic matter. When planting, be sure to mix in a generous amount of Watters 7-4-4 All-Purpose Plant Food to give your plant the essential nutrients for strong root development and a prolific harvest. While deer are known to browse on blackberries, they are not typically a first choice for them. Water deeply and consistently during the first year to help your plant establish.
