The Chinese Evergreen, known botanically as Aglaonema, is what I call the "gold standard" for indoor gardeners, especially if you have a room that doesn't see much sun. To keep your Chinese Evergreen thriving, place it in low to medium light; direct sun is too harsh and will bleach those beautiful patterns right off the leaves. The trick to watering is to keep the soil lightly moist but never soggy. I tell my neighbors to wait until the top two inches of soil feel dry to the touch before reaching for the watering can. Because they enjoy a bit of humidity, they are a fantastic choice for a bathroom or kitchen.
