A smart way to keep those wormy critters out of your apples and pears. These traps aren’t about catching every worm or moth; they're more like an early warning system, telling you exactly when to start your spray schedule.
These pheromone traps are designed specifically for codling moths, the worm that eats your fruits. These traps use a scent lure that attracts male moths. Hang them in your apple and pear trees when the blossoms begin to fade, usually around springtime. One or two traps per standard-sized tree is plenty.
Check the traps every few days. When you start catching a consistent number of moths—say, five or more in a week—it’s time to get ready to spray. This is the signal that the first generation of moths is active, and their larvae will soon be boring into your fruit.
Often, you'll need to spray twice, about two weeks apart, to catch the eggs that hatch later. This method allows you to spray only when necessary, minimizing chemical use and maximizing your harvest. It's a simple, effective way to keep your fruit worm-free.
