If you’re looking for a trailing plant that is as tough as nails and twice as fast a grower, the String of Fishhooks (Curio radicans) is a fantastic choice. I love this plant because it has a bit more "attitude" than its cousin, the String of Pearls. Its leaves are long, curved, and bluish-green, looking exactly like a series of tiny hooks hanging from a fishing line. It creates a thick, lush curtain of foliage that can easily trail several feet down from a high shelf or hanging basket.
The "neighborly secret" to the Fishhook plant is its incredible resilience. Because the leaves are thick and succulent, they store plenty of water, making this plant very forgiving if you have a busy schedule. Here in Prescott, it thrives in our bright light; give it plenty of bright, indirect sun to keep the "hooks" plump and the vines growing strong. It is the perfect choice for someone who wants the dramatic "spiller" look without the constant maintenance that some tropical vines require.
