You'll need to dig a hole that's slightly larger than the stainless steel plant basket. Place the basket into the hole. Now, here's the key: make sure the top edge of the basket is just above the soil level. This prevents gophers from simply reaching over the edge.

Place your plant inside the basket, filling the surrounding space with good soil. I like to use a blend of garden soil and Watters Premium Mulch to give your plant a good start. Be sure to fill the basket completely so there are no air pockets.

Once your plant is nestled in its new home, water it thoroughly. The gopher shield basket will protect the roots as they grow, keeping them safe from those hungry critters. It's a simple, effective way to ensure your plants thrive, even in gopher country.
