A low-spreading evergreen conifer, typically growing only one to two feet tall but spreading a good six to eight feet wide, creating a lush, carpet-like covering. Its soft, scale-like needles are a lovely blue-green color that provides year-round interest and a cooling touch to the landscape. This juniper is known for its dense, mat-forming habit, making it excellent for suppressing weeds and adding a touch of rugged beauty.

The Buffalo Juniper is a sun-lover and thrives in full Arizona sunshine. It's also incredibly drought-tolerant once established, making it a superb choice for water-wise gardens. And the good news for those of us who share our space with deer is that junipers are generally not on their preferred menu.

To give your Buffalo Juniper the best start and encourage that wonderful spreading growth, plant it in well-drained soil in a sunny location. After planting, a layer of Watters Premium Mulch around the base will help conserve precious moisture and keep weeds at bay. This resilient juniper is quite self-sufficient and doesn't typically require a lot of supplemental feeding. However, a light application of Watters 7-4-4 All-Purpose Plant Food in early spring can provide it with a gentle boost as it establishes itself.

Buffalo Juniper is fantastic for erosion control on slopes, as a low-maintenance groundcover in sunny areas, spilling over walls, or adding a touch of resilient beauty to rock gardens. It's a tough and attractive choice for our unique climate!
