If you are looking for a plant that brings a touch of the tropics indoors without the fuss, the Dracaena Massangeana, or the "Corn Plant," is a reliable classic. It earns its name from those thick, woody canes and long, arching leaves that look just like stalks of corn. The 'Massangeana' variety is particularly striking because of the bold, lime-yellow stripe running right down the center of each leaf.
I find these are perfect for those spots in your home that get moderate, indirect light. The biggest mistake I see folks make is overwatering. These plants store moisture in those stout canes, so you really want to let the soil dry out significantly—about halfway down the pot—before giving it a soak. This prevents root rot and keeps the foliage vibrant. If you notice the leaves getting dusty, just wipe them down with a damp cloth; it helps the plant breathe and keeps it looking sharp.
