Are you ready to elevate your indoor jungle to the next level? The Monstera Esqueleto is a collector's dream, a truly unique and striking aroid that will capture attention with its deeply fenestrated, almost skeletal leaves. If you love the look of a mature Monstera but want something a bit more rare and dramatic, this is the plant for you.
This magnificent tropical vine is known for its incredibly large leaves, which can reach up to three feet long indoors, adorned with intricate natural cuts and holes that become more pronounced as the plant matures. To truly appreciate its impressive size and encourage those magnificent leaves, provide it with a moss pole or other support to climb. It's a natural climber, and growing vertically results in the largest and most impressive foliage. The Monstera Esqueleto can easily become a stunning floor plant, reaching heights of 6 feet or more in your home, creating a lush, tropical focal point.
For optimal growth, your Monstera Esqueleto thrives in bright, indirect light. Think of a spot near an east or west-facing window where it gets plenty of ambient light without direct, harsh sun, which can scorch its delicate leaves. If you notice the fenestrations becoming less prominent, it's often a sign that your plant desires more light. When it's time to repot, which you'll likely do every one to two years as it outgrows its container, a well-draining, airy mix is crucial. We highly recommend using Watters Potting Soil, possibly amended with additional orchid bark or perlite to ensure excellent drainage and aeration, mimicking its natural jungle habitat.
Water your Monstera Esqueleto when the top two to three inches of soil feel dry to the touch. It appreciates consistent moisture but is highly susceptible to root rot if overwatered, so err on the side of slightly underwatering if you are unsure. During the active growing seasons of spring and summer, a monthly feeding will help support its vigorous growth. Urban Gardener's Super Growth Elixir or Fertilome's All Purpose Houseplant Food are both excellent choices to keep your plant healthy and encourage those incredible leaves. Just be sure to follow the dilution instructions on the product label.
A crucial piece of advice, especially for pet owners: like other Monsteras, the Monstera Esqueleto is toxic to pets and humans if ingested, due to calcium oxalate crystals. These can cause oral irritation, swelling, and digestive upset. Always keep this stunning plant out of reach of curious furry friends and small children.
