There is something truly magical about Oxalis triangularis, often called the Purple Shamrock. With its deep maroon, triangular leaves that look like a cloud of butterflies, it’s a plant that actually "talks" to you. Through a process called nyctinasty, the leaves fold up tight at night and open wide to greet the morning sun. It’s a wonderful reminder that our gardens are living, breathing things.
To keep your Oxalis vibrant, place it in a spot with bright, filtered light. If the light is too dim, those stems will stretch and lose their sturdy habit. The trick to watering is consistency—keep the soil moist but never soggy. This plant grows from small bulbs (corms), and they don't like to sit in a puddle. If your plant ever looks tired or goes dormant in the winter, don’t panic! Just trim it back, cut down on the water, and it’ll bounce back with fresh energy in a few weeks.
