Variegated String of Pearls

If you thought the classic version was stunning, the Variegated String of Pearls (Curio rowleyanus) is a true masterpiece of the succulent world. It takes those iconic, pea-like "pearls" and elevates them with swirls of creamy white, soft yellow, and even hints of pink when exposed to bright light. I often tell folks it looks like a collection of tiny, hand-painted marbles cascading down the side of a pot.

Because of its white variegation, this variety is a bit more delicate and grows a little slower than its solid green cousin. It needs a bit more "neighborly love" to truly thrive. To keep those colors vibrant, it requires bright, indirect light—it needs more light than the green version to photosynthesize, but the white parts are prone to sunburn, so avoid that harsh afternoon Arizona sun! The most important rule? Use a very well-draining cactus mix and only water when the "pearls" look slightly shriveled, as they are expert water-storers.
