Zamioculcas 'Chameleon'

The ZZ Plant 'Chameleon' (Zamioculcas zamiifolia) is a stunning twist on a beloved classic, offering an ever-changing display of vibrant foliage right in your living room. You will want this hardy architectural beauty in your home because its newly emerging leaves unfurl as a striking, radiant yellow before slowly darkening to a rich, glossy emerald green, creating a gorgeous two-toned effect across the stems. Indoors, this incredibly resilient plant reaches a comfortable size of 2 to 3 feet tall and wide, making it a perfect floor plant or a bold accent for a sturdy side table. To get the brightest golden hues from the new growth, place your 'Chameleon' in bright, indirect sunlight, though it is famously adaptable and will easily survive in lower-light corners where other plants might fail. It is important to know that this fascinating houseplant is not pet-safe, so you must place it securely out of reach if you share your home with curious cats and dogs.

Caring for your 'Chameleon' ZZ Plant is one of the most forgiving experiences in indoor gardening, provided you remember its drought-tolerant roots. Because this plant stores water in thick, potato-like rhizomes beneath the soil, you must let the potting mix dry out completely from top to bottom before offering it a drink. When the soil is finally dry to the touch, give it a thorough, deep soaking, ensuring that all excess water drains completely out the bottom of the pot, as sitting in moisture will quickly lead to root rot. If you notice the thick stems looking a bit wrinkled or leaning, the plant is simply letting you know its water reserves are tapped and it is time for a drink. Treat it to a well-draining cactus and succulent soil and practice the art of healthy neglect, and this ever-changing survivor will bring dynamic, living energy to your home for years to come.
